One thing I don't get - if the device killed him instantly, what was all the stuff that supposedly happened afterwards about?

I mean, he turned his phone on, then went and spoke to the game designer, went to the house etc. Fast forward and he's back in the room with the game designer, and they said that it was only active for a couple of seconds, and apologised for the intensity of the experience. Wow ok, good ending I thought, back to see his mum.

But oh wait, there's a twist, his mum isn't real, and somehow he died? What the hell?

Everything from the wack a mole and on was in his head due to the game. They plugged him in and right when she did the phone rang killing him. The game was activated for .04 seconds I think it said. So everything you saw post the initial white room where she plugs the thing into his neck and turns the head ban on is in his imagination. That's how I guess intense you would say the game was. He imagined all that and lived for like two days in his head or inside the game I guess you could say in less than a second.

Reminded me of An Occurance at Owl Creek Bridge. Great little short story.
