Shut Up and Dance - question re: the hackers

So the hackers apparently got access to Kenny's computer via the malware remover he downloaded - at least that's when we see them first messaging him. But what about the other people that were blackmailed? Did everyone just happen to download this particular software at some point? Also, since it was one of the first search results, there must be lots of people who downloaded it and haven't done anything wrong/illegal. So there must be this huge network of hackers just spying on these people all the time, in the hope that some of them get caught doing something bad?

The link appears when they get hacked. It's all linked.
They are spying on everyone.

i'm pretty sure it was the virus that the sister downloaded to stream movies.

it probably altered the search results and suggested a malware program or already installed the backdoor thingy when the sister installed it.

like you said, a malware program is not likely to show up as the first result on a healthy system.

I'm thinking everyone else is searching for illegal or frowned upon things on the net...kiddy photos or escorts...and the hackers gravitate to those types of sites.

Agreed.

I think that the hackers are lying in wait on some of the bad sites, rather than spying on everyone

Or they are watching everyone's browser history and watching the red flags.
