I never used mine anyway so I immediately covered them with tape on my laptop and tablet. Even the Director of the FBI does that.
shareThis isn't a slam, but it's sad it took you watching an episode of black mirror to tape up your webcams. It's pretty much common knowledge that they can be manipulated very easily. US or UK, your government can access it in seconds.

Most of those webcam watchers are only looking for stupid girls undressing. If they see a man, they usually leave in a second. The government would only watch you if you have an edgy search history like "how to make a bomb" or "hot to join ISIS" or something
shareno because i use laptop rarely nowadays and not gonna put sticker on my phone, plus when i jerk to phone porn i usually hold it right where it's the camera coincidentally, but even if i haven't i am adult man so i don't really care if someone will see me jerking off to regular porn, so not much to blackmail
though it's funny i just yesterday read about exactly same scam going on on BBC website, it's called Skype porn scam, interesting idea though it works only on certain target group, though thanks to Skype it's not so sophisticated, your computer ain't hacked so they have just Facebook contacts they can see, if you ain't in Facebook they have bad luck and can't really target you
