"Heaven Is A Place On Earth" - Perfect Theme Song!

How perfect is "Heaven Is A Place On Earth" as the theme for "San Junipero"? It's almost as if Charlie Brooker wrote Yorkie and Kelly's story to the lyrics. Hearing the words as the final scenes play out is so cathartic. The episode turns a catchy 80s pop song into something more profound.

"Heaven Is A Place On Earth"

Ooh, baby, do you know what that's worth?
Ooh heaven is a place on earth
They say in heaven love comes first
We'll make heaven a place on earth
Ooh heaven is a place on earth
(San Junipero is a literal heaven on Earth. Yorkie and Kelly made it heaven by putting their love first above all their fears and reservations.)

When the night falls down
I wait for you
And you come around
And the world's alive
With the sound of kids
On the street outside
(When the nightlife begins, the "young" people of San Junipero come out, and Yorkie waits for Kelly to come and make her feel alive.)

When you walk into the room
You pull me close and we start to move
And we're spinning with the stars above
And you lift me up in a wave of love...
(Perfectly describes their feeling-out scene on the dance floor.)

Ooh, baby, do you know what that's worth?
Ooh heaven is a place on earth
They say in heaven love comes first
We'll make heaven a place on earth
Ooh heaven is a place on earth

When I feel alone
I reach for you
And you bring me home
When I'm lost at sea
I hear your voice
And it carries me
(In a couple of scenes, Yorkie spends a lot of time on the beach, staring at the ocean, until Kelly calls to her.)

In this world we're just beginning
To understand the miracle of living
Baby I was afraid before
But I'm not afraid anymore
(In the world of San Junipero, Yorkie is finally experiencing all that she was deprived of in life. She's not afraid anymore to drive, to dance, to live.)

not crying

Less than forget. But more than begun.

Thanks for the list. Yeah, pretty cool how the songs foreshadow everything while also being period specific.

Thought of another one. The Lost Boys is playing at the cinema. Because it's about the undead.

And another, Max Headroom! If anyone remembers his origin, he is a normal guy whose personality is uploaded and brought back as an artificial life-form (tv presenter). They really put a lot of thought into the details on this.

Also Bubble Bobble - which has a different ending if both players make it to the end.

It's full of foreshadowing.

I think that one's my favourite. There may be a few nobody has spotted yet too.

Exactly. I found myself smiling the entire time it played.
