I don't understand why Kenny would look at kiddie porn. I would like to imagine things like that are hard to find, seems like it'd be far easier to look up regular porn.

I wondered if it had something to do with his computer being hacked but that guy in the woods obviously did it.

Mate, look up any known child predator and read their story of how they came to be incarcerated. Having an account on a paedophilia-related site such as NAMBLA is a common occurrence in these types of cases.

They likely already have his contacts but all they see him do is jerk off. It's plausible deniability. Maybe they downloaded the hard drive but you could say, they planted it since they have control of your computer.

Grey hat hacker here; worked for various ISPs, and tech companies. Been finding loop-holes in technology since the 80's. Once put together a trojan like the one deployed in the show that was ten levels deep, never released in the wild of course, I like to build rather then destroy. However, I did test parts of it and its stupefying what some users will connect a camera to. I used to hack into routers/systems just to upgrade their firmware/security, you know, for fun and to improve my skills.

Digital forensics would show access dates. They didn't just hack his computer, he installed the first Anti-Malware he found, problem is that Malware was the virus. It contacted them when he installed it and they complete access. Copying the contents of the hard drive depends on how much time they had and his/their internet speeds. They already had all the blackmail they needed and this is why he was willing to comply. The cake was there to keep him at ease, if it was simply a weapon then he would know right off the bat they wanted him to commit a crime and he might have gone to the police. They motivated him to act in a way he would not otherwise.

To take this a step further, the police could access his ISP logs even if they didn't have his computer/hard drive contents.

The only part that doesn't gel is how he survived that fight to the death. They didn't show it so we have to assume he either went straight for the eyes/testicles, beat him to death with the gun, or the guy was knocked out by some other method/object such as a nearby rock.

Plus without the robbery and murder/manslaughter Kenny would most likely not have done any time other than after being initially picked up.

Not sure what the laws are like in the UK I live in the US. Some months ago a now former coworker got arrested for "the sexual exploitation of a minor" 9 3rd degree counts and 9 2nd degree. He ended up not doing any time other than when he first got picked up and he's in his 40's or 50's. I even saw him the other week at a gas station.

In case anyone is wondering, in the US at least, 3rd degree is just having it. 2nd is doing something that helps spread it (buying it, downloading it, sharing it....) and 1st degree is actually being involved.

So if Kenny was an American he'd be picked up that night but after he made bail he'd most likely never do any more time other than probation community service.....

He would have been placed on a he child sex offender register which would mean he wouldn't be able to get anywhere near children so he would lose his job, loae his friends and maybe even his family. He wouldn't go to prison unless he had a large amount of child porn on his computer. And for all we know, he could have since he was pissed that his sister had borrowed his computer.

I just watched this episode and up until the reveal that he was watching cp I too was thinking "so what he jerked off." He'll be tremendously embarrassed and picked on but everyone masturbates. The stakes immediately became life or death for him so it had to be more serious. I started to think could it be child porn he was watching. He and the other man who admitted to looking seemed to be the most devastated. Bronn was freaking out but not in the same way, he never reached that same intensity (also he should have just told his wife the *beep* truth from the beginning, it would have sucked but it would have been better) Anyway with the cp possibility in mind you then look at the scene of him giving that little girl at the restaurant her toy back in different scope. Then he put a pad lock on his door to keep his sister off his laptop. Or maybe it wasn't cp at all and they planted it and his sister opened his computer up to the hackers when she *beep* up downloading some movie at the beginning of the episode. Sorry for sort of rambling- I'm still processing.

i forgot about the details in the beginning, like him watching the girl, and then getting upset at his sister for using his laptop. Now that stuff has a lot more meaning to it.

Yeah, the first viewing I took that as just a normal brother and sister argument. Then I thought the lock on the door was a little too much but could still be believed as a normal sibling fight.

But after I watched it again more stood out, like that little girl in the restaurant, him fawning over the crayon drawing....and as someone else pointed out when Ser Bron says they sucked up his entire hard drive and had everything - pay attention to Kenny's face and reaction when he hears that.

But at the end of the day, we don't know for sure he did watch child porn and was not simply trolled to the extreme.

Sure we can look at a few scenes in a different light but it just seems extremely odd that a teenager his age would be tied into such a thing... might be the whole point I guess.

I thought that the fact that he was constantly picked on and bullied would have been enough to freak him out if the video of him jerking off was published and that it pushed him over the edge.

I was very surprised that everyone on this board was convinced he did indeed watch child porn.. my interpretation wasn't that one although I can see why.

There was little ambiguity about Kenny being a pedophile.

During the buildup to the fight to the death, Kenny says that he only looked at pictures. The guy says "I just looked at pictures too. How young were they? In the pictures?"

At the end of the episode when he answers the call from his mom, she is screaming at him for "looking at kids." They released the video to his contacts after all, just like all the other blackmail victims.

I think an inference for why both men were in a fight to the death was that no matter which one won, they would have been in possession of the stolen bank funds, caught on video committing murder and on their way to jail. Without having been set up for more serious crimes, even if their predilections were exposed most likely they would've been put on a registry and basically sent on their way. Unless they were distributing or producing the pics they viewed, the punishment would have been much lighter than bank robbery and murder charges that Kenny faces in the end.

I took at that as the other guy assuming Kenny was a pedo as well, nothing from his answer seems to confirm this

I thought it was extreme but since nothing else had pointed in that direction my interpretation was that the "Troll" simply tied him to pedo related material, not that he truly consumed it.

Obviously the punishment seems disproportionate and you could ask yourself why they would have picked on him so bad but that's also the nature of trolling itself. As for Kenny killing the other guy, I bought it of as pure desperation, slipping in a downward spiral (espcially after Sir Bronn's speach in the car).

Granted it seems like very few took it that way but Black Mirror being depressing, I thought it was even more unfair that Kenny was stuck in this whole ordeal and truly had his future life destroyed as opposed to what might have seemed like a disaster (humiliation jerking off) but would have been not that bad in hindsight.

Yes, there were other things pointing in that direction. Do you not remember the scene where Kenny gave the little girl her toy back? Or the one where he was standing transfixed by a child's drawing? There was also significance to the fact that he was so disconnected from people his age.

By the end of the episode, when we hear his mother's phone call, there is no doubt that Kenny is a pedophile.

Why put him in a fight to the death against a pedophile if he's not one himself ? Just for masturbating ? Even in the twisted kind of justice of the hackers that doesn't make sense. Remember Kenny always have the same excuse as the pédophiles: "I only looked at some pictures".

This it is questionable as to whether White Bear was a punishment that fit the crime.

But in his case I don't think it was at all right.

He is a pedophile not a child molester which is entirely different. I think people need to understand this. Yes he is sick for liking younger kids but it is not a choice to whom you are attracted to. Pedophiles need the ability to speak out and get the relative help, otherwise it is just going to cause even more problems for society.
