for those who were expecting a profound speech at the end of Nosedive

What you have to understand is that in order to give a profound speech on anything that was happening, the girl would have had to have a well-defined worldview that she could clearly articulate. Whereas we are just seeing a girl (well, woman) who is a bundle of insecurities, who hasn't really formed an opinion of her own on... well, a lot of things, who is just trying hard to fit in and get ahead. She doesn't have the inner strength or the personal philosophy to fight the gross social injustice (one could argue that in that reality no one did).

Her brother was the only person she could be honest with, and even with him she hasn't had any meaningful discussions on what was going on - so why would any well-formulated thoughts suddenly come to her, especially when she is so emotionally drained?

So what we see in the end is a jumbled mess of her feeling hurt, discarded, and knowing that there is no recovering from this, and yet being powerless to stop it because, self-destructive as it was, that was the only way she could deal with the crushing pain of what was going on in that moment. A stream of consciousness, so to speak.

I was surprised to find out, btw, that the episode was written by Rashida Jones.

Agreed. Plus, I think that if she gave a profound speech, she would have ended up getting 5 star ratings as a result - and thus, nullifying the point of the episode.

I think that outcome would have been a little too optimistic given the circumstances and the overall dystopian tone of the show.

The thing about the people in that reality is that they automatically have preconceived notions based on everyone's rating (we do, too, we just might use different parameters) - and she was a detestable 1.1 by the time she got to the wedding. Basically the very dregs of society.

Anything she could have possibly said would have been automatically dismissed by the audience. About the same amount of stock that you would put in a speech of some dirty smelly homeless person who crashed your wedding.

You are right, it's an overused cliche.

Excellent points!! That's a brave move on the writer's part. And I'm kind of assuming you mean the woman's speech at the wedding. I was surprised that she just meandered and didn't end up revealing anything earth shattering. But she was drunk and not terribly articulate. As you say, a bundle of insecurities.

I did think the very end was great, with her and her hot celly gleefully yelling obscenities at each other.
