What did you think of the end of "Nosedive"?

When Lacie and the prisoner across from her were yelling at one another and putting down the other, why did they do that? Were they losing their minds without their cell phones? What was the significance of it? I'd like to hear people's interpretations. I was a bit thrown off and wasn't sure what to make of it, but I am thinking they have just been detached from reality and interacting away from social media. I guess they have been so used to being fake with people and overly polite they just wanted to tell someone off without worrying about getting a low rating.

I think they had both just started to say what they wanted. Had either of that done that out and about to other people, they would have been down voted by everyone. At this point though, there scores are already ruined, so they just don't care anymore, and jr appears the more jokes they make about each other the happier they become, because they start to smile when screaming "*beep* you!" So I interpreted it as now that they can finally say what they mean and how they feel, they're finally truly happy.

Well, i think it's because the always have to supress their real feelings and of course tried "non cursing" like for ever. So at the end it was just a big relief to let all the curse words and rhymes out.
What I was thinking was more, that she had a "thing" for black men, like when she was in the new house and saw the hologramm of a black guy, she was very impressed, wasn't she.
I liked that episode, but was a little disappointed because I was waiting for her brother to come for help.

They were finally free to say whatever they wanted. That was the significance of that moment.

I agree - they no longer had to worry about ratings and were just reveling in saying whatever felt good. I thought it was pretty good, and pretty funny.

I also felt like there was some sexual tension there, and after they get it all out they'll become a couple.

I agree with much of the previous analysis, it appears that they had finally become unburdened and felt truly free. I thought the episode a very clever look at what I would call the "Facebook world" we live in and the hypocrisy it has created. I'm no expert on Facebook and frankly have little interest in it, but don't people equate their number of friends as an affirmation of their popularity. I always regarded a person who sought to have everybody liked them as a bit of fool and phony. I enjoyed this episode because I've watched this recent obsession and it has always puzzled me. It also seemed to confirm my own assessment of social media whose true value is in creating like-minded communities and has somehow evolved into a venue for a cult of celebrity." Nosedive " was a clear indication of the nightmare that it can create and its consequences going forth.
After all, placing a numerical value on person and extrapolating their worthiness is kind of "Trumpian" at its core. When viewed in this political season the episode had a particularly resonance. Trump's habit of rating woman based on their appearance diminishes her to a mere physical object and as such overlooks many of her other qualities as an individual.

So well stated awobel. I use some social media from time to time, sometimes well and other times foolishly. It's such a rabbit hole. I know it's useful in some ways and have recently become a fan of my son's class Twitter, as well as Seattle City Light's ... After our power outage :D

I do hope the cult of technology-enhanced self-obsession abates. I think it may. Kids in my first-grader's class are being introduced to the use of technology like social media as a tool to communicate and collaborate. They're also learning what not to do on it.

So we'll see. Have a wonderful day out in the world :)

Agree with the other opinions on this thread. Also thought it was sweetly ironic that she might finally get what she really wanted in that little prison: a hot partner... And probably some genuine happiness. Since, as her brother observed, she was just killing herself with kindness to live in a fluffy prison... I kinda wonder if that society would experience a meltdown/backlash where the jails would become a kind of haven... And sought after by some.

Then, for those secretly longing for freedom but unwilling to let go of the system, the fluffy housing development builders would roll out hipster concepts involving minimalist, brutalist micro-condos... Hipster pads with the trappings of freedom, i.e., look exactly like the prisons, but still saddled with the rating system.

Like Famine's anti-diet non-food line in Good Omens.

they were going to do it because brits like pushing the diversity on shows.
