Are we to assume that the phone frequency cause the problem with software that ultimately kills him ? If so,than it appears that his mother's phone call was responsible and therefore it was his mother caused his death in the span of 0.4 seconds .
Yes... they explain that pretty clearly in the episode. The phone call killed him.

shareIt's interesting that the woman he hooked up with in London was both his downfall and also his potential savior. She was the one who gave him the idea to photo the game's proprietary information (which he did). But she also told him "Call your mother" (which, unfortunately, he did not!).
I really liked the writing in this episode -- how fate led him to his death.
