San Junipero episode sucked and was overhyped
I have no idea why people thought it was so great. For a Black Mirror episode, it was dumb.
shareI have no idea why people thought it was so great. For a Black Mirror episode, it was dumb.
shareWhy do you think it was dumb?
shareIf it involved a straight couple, none of you would have cared.
shareSo because it featured a gay couple, you thought the episode sucked?
shareYeah, I said it. Absolutely. Don't give a damn.
Are you triggered?

I do not like green eggs and ham. I do not like them or my daughters.

Your idiocy triggers me.
shareHey hey calm down. I think what he's trying to say that one of the bigger reasons for people to love the episode
is because of the gay-couple message. But it's fine! You can love a movie or an episode because it has a lot of action, because it has a great twist, because it has a lot of sex, because it has great character stories... there are many reasons to like an episode. One of them can be a certain message it delivers.

I think it wouldn't make any difference if the couple was gay or straight. The episode is crap.
"I hate it when people make their board signatures indistinguishable."
It's the IMDB. Think about who's on here. Clearly, the people raving about the episode are probably gay.
shareI'm not. And, well, I don't rave about the episode, but I think it was damn great, as all of the Black Mirror eps are.
The only single thing I can think of that I DONT like here is: it has a happy ending... I didn't expect that from any BM episode...

You're overrated!
shareFor a standalone piece it was brilliant and extremely well acted but as a black mirror episode where we are used to it ending on a darker tone, it did kind of suck yes.
shareThe ending wasn't dark but for me it definitely wasn't a happy ending. It was so sad..these two packages of data floating around a server, convincing themselves that it's all real? That's sad.
shareOP is the america we live in now, unfortunately.
Less than forget. But more than begun.
I don't know what sexual orientation has to do with anything, but yeah, San Junipero is way overhyped and not up to the standards established by other episodes.
I actually agree with you. It was not that good and it was pumped up, yes.
The concept of the episode is very cool of course. Going to a cool place when ur old where u can be young and *beep* and do whatever. Hell yea. And then when u die to go to that awesome place as well. Sure, sign me up..... not really.
But, it was all drawn out and I feel like I was so confused for so long. All that time changing happening. They explained it too late in the game for me. I was interested yet bored at the same time. I actually thought the glasses girl was an alien for a while cuz she acted like everything was brand new to her! lol Boy was I way off.
This was my thought too! I liked the episode but I was very confused for the first half which drew me out the story and I was just waiting for the glasses chick to be an alien since she freaked out over everything
shareoverhyped by who?
shareIt was absolutely crucial that they were gay.. In the period that they were from, it was harder for parents to accept that their children were gay.. People weren't as open as they are now.. So the term "Heaven Is a Place on Earth" couldn't have been more appropriate as Yorkie finally gets to live the life she couldn't in San Junipero.. But was that ethical? They're not technically alive.. All the episodes of Black Mirror beg the question "Was that ethical?","Is that right?".. So the episode is not just "a gay couple get together".. No episode of Black Mirror is that straight (pun not intended).. It was an absolutely beautiful episode with stunning visuals and non-linear storytelling.. Maybe upon second viewing your thoughts might change? Try paying attention to the details more than the story next time, maybe you'll get something out of it..
shareI'm not sure that it was better than "The Entire History of You" but it was a damn good episode. Most of the episodes introduce the twist pretty early on. But this took it's time developing the characters, and the 2nd half gives deeper meaning to the events in the 1st. Was pretty surprised when they switched everything to the late 90s.
I think it would have been effective with a straight couple. Though it helped add nostalgia to the 80s setting. Definitely would make a great movie, but I like it as is.
Thor 2-Attack of the Clones-The 5th Element the trifecta of bad movies.
I completely agree with you.. "The Entire History Before You" IS a better episode.. But Yorkie being gay was pretty important for the story.. A story with straight couple would have worked, too, definitely.. But her being gay and never being accepted by her family made the things more complicated and her afterlife that much more "heavenly".. Being gay wasn't as uncomplicated as it is now back then.. Some would argue it is still pretty complicated being gay, now.. I guess that was the point, she can be who she wants to be and in the time she wants to be in.. i.e. she got to live her life (but not really)
