OK if this was the 'heaven version' the should make the 'hell version'. A serial killer on death row, injected with a lethal dose and after his death, his consciousness is uploaded in a virtual hell where he is tormented forever. Literally forever. I guess this could make a lot of bad boys behave like angels. Who needs the Bible when you have technology, right?
I think there was an episode of Twilight Zone, one of the newer versions of it, where some scientist came up with a more "efficient" version of putting people in jail. They would actually put your consciousness in jail, so you thought you were in jail for like 20 years, but it was actually only a few hours of your real life. Then at the end of the episode the scientist accidentally is put in his own invention, goes through 10 years of simulated jail, and when he comes out of it, he realized it was so cruel that he destroyed his invention.
Um, isn't that basically what White Christmas is about? Except instead of jailing your original consciousness for an eternity, they jail a copy of your consciousness instead.
Badass, I think that was an episode of the newer Outer Limits. I totally remember that one! The designer gets stuck in the program and thinks he's spent like 20 years in jail before they are able to pull him out. Good episode!
Lets not forget, Captain Picard who spent a virtual Lifetime in an ancient culture that hat died out. The flute is a token of memory to that... And I think there was an episode of TNG where O'Brian? Was in virtual jail? Or was it in voyager? I cant remember...
