Hated in the Nation Retribution? (SPOILERS)

Here's how my 'sick' mind would've ended Hated in the Nation:

'''''''''''
Blue catches up to Scholes.

He sees her.

She reaches in her pocket for a case. She opens it. There are drone bees in the case.

They go after Scholes. (She was obviously smart enough to figure out how he did it from the hard drive he left behind).

It ends with him experiencing the same death that he caused for 300,000+ people. After all, he was a mass murderer.

Wow, there's a whole other thread about how "disappointing" the ending was, and virtually no one on here seems to understand the very intentional decision to end on an anti-climax. I admit, it wasn't satisfying, but it didn't take me long to realize why.

Your take on it is at least understandable, from the perspective of someone who wants to be satisfied by the narrative structure of it, the people who watch Black Mirror solely because they think it's "good that it's depressing" are watching the show for stupid reasons, in my opinion. In their minds the ending line of every script should be "So then life sucked forever, and everyone died lonely." Then they can hurl Emmys at the screen, because there's nothing more clever, and deserving of praise, than repeating the same bleak sentiment over and over again.

When the story goes in a different direction they don't bother to ask "Why" they're just disappointed that it didn't validate their unmedicated worldview. Ultimately the ending is not about being satisfying, or unsatisfying, it's not even really about being ambiguous. It just is... like a big empty hole. I would think that would appeal to those sad sacks, but I guess when you're looking to validate your clinical depression, nothing short of utter failure is depressing enough for you.

Guess I went off on a tangent there. Personally I don't like your ending, but I respect the desire for satisfying closure.

I wrote in another thread that your reply is exactly why I like the Black Mirror discussions on this board. They're very civil and thought out.

I like most of the endings on Black Mirror, even the open ended endings. I didn't even mind this one (although I would've stopped at the text "Got Him").

I just liked mine better ๐Ÿ˜„. I wanted and needed REVENGE.....lol. I guess that means that it really got to me...๐Ÿธ.

I don't know about that. - I was pretty harsh toward the people who like for Black Mirror to be as bleak as possible, even if I responded to none of them directly. ๎€ฆ

I did not take it as being harsh, as I was only talking about one ep.

And, as I intimated, I personally, like you, liked most, if not all of the open-ended endings. They lead to lots of questions. And, you don't watch a show like Black Mirror for its Happy Endings.

This ending really doesn't lead to lots of questions, because, (I assume), it meant that the mass murderer is about to get caught anyway.

My post just made me feel better. ๐Ÿ˜

Loved this response and completely agree with your assessment and perspective!

And then, there's THIS viewpoint on the HITN ending on a HITN thread:

I believe the end was meant to make you consider what would you do.
Would you # for him to die?
I think that's the point.

Therefore, I would seriously consider killing him in some manner. My method would just be robot bees.

As I stated...the neat point about Black Mirror is all the different viewpoints on the show, the endings, the moral judgments, etc.

It is fascinating. This thread is a microcosm of that. Nobody is right and nobody is wrong. We all just have opinions and viewpoints....some are strong than others, but they are all still just opinions. ๐Ÿ˜ฑ
