San Junipero: Parallels with Vanilla Sky

Was it just me or did anyone notice the parallels of Life Extension from Vanilla Sky to be a bit similar to San Junipero.
(I'm not counting Abre los ojos here for now, cause i'm yet to watch it)

Even though living in a simulation is not a fairly a novel concept, the whole act of living in a suspended state right after death made me feel they can sorta exist in the same box.

They can exist in the same box, but I feel like so can a few other works. The anime Expelled From Paradise (which is on Netflix in case you want to see it) deals with a future where the greater part of humanity has decided to live in a simulator run on a computer system orbiting Earth instead of continuing on as fleshy containers for the mind/soul.

The Matrix brings up the aspect certain individuals wanting to be returned to the virtual world instead of living in the real world.

Also, Ghost In The Shell (upon which the Matrix draws inspiration from) often talks of humanity versus technology and the fact that the main character exists as data in an android body living in the real world and then later exists purely as data in an online world.
