The system they're trialling in China, according to that article, sounds like a terrible idea to apply to dating. If I was on a date with a girl with a low score, and I knew she had a low score, I wouldn't want her to feel like she has to justify her score to me when we're just getting to know each other. And if I had a low score, I wouldn't want to feel like she's judging me or that I should try to explain my score to her. Stuff like that can only distract from the purpose and fun of dating and put people under unnecessary pressure.
But I like the idea of this for business purposes. It would be great to know which companies and traders are trustworthy, and if I had my own company it would be good to know what sort of customer I'm dealing with before finding out the hard way. And it seems like a good incentive for being honest, for people who aren't naturally honest. But for anything more personal, especially dating, it sounds like a terrible idea.
And it's not really like Nosedive. In Nosedive everybody you have any interaction with rates you for any reason they like. The system they're trialling in China, it seems like it's just the government and certain companies that rate you, much like an extended credit score.
As for using somebody's shopping history to tell whether they have children, surely they have a registry of births and deaths in China? Why not just use that?
