Waldo

The most boring and annoying so far.
Feel sorry for the guy though after the elections he could have given his character a personality make over and work on other issues, make he could find in himself what he cares about the most and use Waldo to voice his opinions and promote change.
He wasn't a very intelligent guy, sadly.

I think it loses a bit of its appeal if you're not into British politics.

In a year where a living cartoon character has been running for US President on a platform of nothing more than insulting people, though, it has a lot of relevance.

If you must blink, do it now.

reply

Hillary loves to insult people, but she's far too old to be considered a cartoon character.

reply

I thought that was a reference to Trump.

reply

Your not too quick are you?

reply

What's the problem now?

reply

i know you can't help it, you were born that way; you can never get why it was hillary not trump that is a living cartoon.

reply

Sorry, I couldn't possibly care less about this or about either one of them.

reply

It was Trump and his behaviour to the letter. Your only mistake is not understanding that is not Waldo portraying Trump but is actually Trump using the Waldo technique and I bet he and those behind him have seen this episode. Otherwise you are correct

reply

Well, seeing as how that episode predates the current election by at least a few years... 

I was only replying to MovieGuy who was under the impression that Hillary was being likened to the cartoon character in the comments above. I thought Trump was the obvious comparison, not Hillary.

reply

And you were right! The only paradox we have here is what came first: Chicken or egg 😀

*You're

like in "YOU'RE a smug douce, firefly900"

It's "You're"... If you're going to insult someone, do it with proper grammar.

reply

Wow really. Your a sheep

reply

It's relevant, but that doesn't make it well made. It's a good idea not well developed and then poorly executed.

reply

But I have never seen a politician being so blatantly in your face with insults such as name calling and swear words? Showing a virtual dick?
And I didn't find Waldo funny. There wasn't anything funny about him. Was it supposed to be a reflection of the society the episode was trying to show? Something totally distasteful and funny being a success for its comedy?

Now, if the guy behind Waldo actually was interested in politics and was keen on using his ideologies, or was even genuinely funny and capable of coming up with good jokes, then it would be another story.

Unfortunately I found myself agreeing with the other candidate guy during the debate when he addressed Waldo personally.

reply

I found it boring the first year I saw it. But I just watched it and OMG wow, Waldo is trump, trump is Waldo. When the three guys sit down together and the promoter spelled the strategy all out, I thought OMG this is trump and his campagin. The insults, the exhortation for violence acts and the crowd's willingness to engage, etc. But thank god in the end commonsense won out. At least for that election.

At least in that election, the only thing at stake was one measly seat in the House of Commons, not the friggin' U.S. presidency. Trump's candidacy is far more frightening than anything in that episode.

More accurately it is the tea party, it is UKIP, it is Brexit, it is Bernie Sanders and yes, it is Trump.

Apart from the vulgarity, it is the whole anti-establishment movement that is rising up in the world and tilting at the lie that is the current political structure that pretends to care about people but is only really interested in keeping power and keeping those that contribute to their campaigns happy.

reply

What?!

I think I can see the Tea Party comparison, somewhat - but the politician's speech to/about Waldo sounded like Sanders could have been delivering it. It sounded a little like him smacking down that reporter recently who asked him who he thought the Democrats might run in 2020 and Sanders gave him the smack-down.

"What else do you like? Lazy? Ugly? Horny? I got 'em all."
"You don't look lazy."

reply

I'm referring to the Sanders that showed up before the Democratic primaries who was actually building an alt-left following. Not the one after the primaries that the Dems got to and clearly lobotomized

reply

Yeah. It's my least favorite episode of the series. I was kinda bummed out that the second season ended on a flat note. Then White Christmas came out, and all was well.

Clever things make people feel stupid and unexpected things make them feel scared

reply

Black Mirror is most eerie when its episodes prove to be more prophecy than entertainment.

I didn't find the Season 2 Finale entertaining. The least of the series, in fact. Waldo's humor didn't appeal to me and the plot didn't grip me. But, I now find that episode in particular to be the most frightening. Because, it happened.

And if that episode can happen...why not the others? When an episode I deemed most lackluster can be a reality, who's to say the ones I deem most fantastic aren't just around the corner?

My sentiments exactly. I nodded my head in defeat once the epilogue played during the credits. "Yup, that's exactly what's going to happen."

Insane. This has to stop now, lol...
