Hugh Alexander - sooo annoying?
Anyone else think Hugh Alexander was just so annoying in this?
Just his corny, smug, bond-like delivery of every line - was just so tiresome.

I thought his character was portrayed very well. He was funny (taking Turing's sandwich), angry (throwing things at the bombe), brilliant (diagonal board, although Gordon Welchman actually invented that), thoughtful (if you fire him, you'll have to fire me too).
And he was part of the very best scene in the movie (IMO): when the codebreakers are all congratulating and hugging each other after the they finally broke the code, and Hugh looks at Alan and Alan looks at Hugh and Hugh smiles and kind of nods his head signifying "my God, you really did it, didn't you". Priceless.
Agreed.

i doubt he was like that in real life, any more than Turing was like he is portrayed in the film. Diana Plowman, who worked at Bletchley, described hugh Alexander as 'tall, blond, huge blue eyes, never stopped talking, A terrible energy'. he apparently had a passion for working nights, but that didn't stop him working for a large portion of the day as well. he had a great admiration for Turing's work.
shareVery interesting that they chose to depict him differently in the film. I thought the dynamic between Alexander and Turing that started off as competitive, but grew into a distant yet mutual respect was done very well, but picturing what you described with Alexander more of an admirer of Turing would have changed the entire development and cohesion of the team at Bletchley.

Matthew Goode is an actor who needs a strong director to rein him in. Guastly in this movie.
