police dont seem to exist in this films universe so thered be no point

The Police did exist in the film's world. Roy acknowledges the presence of the Police when the motorway traffic report comes on the radio at the start. Roy also repeatedly advises Adam to be careful about leaving DNA evidence. The film is set in the 'real' world in a contemporary setting. A policeman may not appear in the film but that does not mean that the Police do not exist here.
