I did not see Steve Jobs

Everyone is praising Michael Fassbender on his amazing acting chops, but in this movie I just saw Fassbender arguing with a lot of people. Every 5 minutes I had to remind myself that he was supposed to be portraying Steve Jobs. The fact that he didn't look like Jobs at all took me out of the movie every time. It might be shallow from my part, but this is why I didn't like the movie. As well as it feeling completely pointless.

If all the fights I ever had with people were crammed into three chapters, you would have a similar movie.

If the real Woz saw SJ on Fassbender it's because he gave a convincing performance.
Your argument is invalid.

I'm happy Woz liked the movie, I didn't

"I had to remind myself that he was supposed to be portraying Steve Jobs" Well no one knew what Jobs was like in his personal life, You keep saying his meant to be portraying Steve Job but he was, The side the public didn't get to see, Probably much different that was shown at a Apple presentation

I agree with you on that. I was actually surprised seeing Fassbender being nominated for an Oscar, as I was equally surprised seeing him not being nominated for his acting in Shame. His performances in Shame, Macbeth and even in Inglourious Basterds were much better than in Steve Jobs. That what I saw, as you already pointed out, was just Fassbender.

Completely agree, totally took me out of the suspension of disbelief. Like a movie with really bad special effects. I know some people can overlook actor-likeness, I can't. Reminded me a lot of Nixon, Hopkins owned the role, but couldn't get past his appearance.

Fassbender gave a good performance but he wasn't Steve Jobs. Perhaps Jobs is too well known, both how he looked and how he sounded and this was too much to ask.

But Fassbender never gave him the oddity of genius: he made him arrogant (which he was) and disagreeable (which he also was) but there was never the strangeness that is typical of people who are incapable of conforming to society - which Jobs was.

I looked up Fassbender's age. Either he's lying or that's the worst case of premature aging in the movies. He looks early 50s which also was jarring as Jobs was so much younger when the movie is supposed to take place.

AND his accent would come and go and turn Irish sometimes! Fassbender's a good actor but he doesn't have the range all the hype suggests. He was OTT ridiculous in 12 Years and yet they gave him an Oscar nom for that. He's coasting on the hype and being overrated now.

It was a very bad year though for male lead performances. Last year when there was much more competition, I don't think he would have been nominated.

This is the worst case of miscasting I've encountered since possibly 'The Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy' back in 2005.

Fassbender as Jobs? What's next? Elijah Wood as Iggy Pop?
