Different lyrics

I realized that lyrics differ from original in many moments. Can anyone explain, why and when the change was made? Is it maybe taken from Las Vegas Spectacular?

Because there are so few recordings of other productions other than the OCR, it's hard to tell exactly when the changes were made, though I think most of them have been changed for quite some time (before the Las Vegas show opened). As for the why? may have just been a case that they felt the newer lyrics flowed or sounded better, or they wanted to freshen things up a bit.

In the case of Raoul's change in lines during Think of Me, I've heard rumors that it was changed because they were afraid that - depending on the singer/how he enunciates it, it could possibly be heard as "You're really not a *bitch*..." instead of "You're really not a bit the gawkish..." so they avoided that possible 'mishearing' by changing it to the "Long ago, it seems so long ago, How young and innocent we were" line instead.

These are just my own speculations though, someone else might know more information than me.

Yeah that "bitch" reference always tickles me when I hear it.

Why does the movie have different lyrics to the 25th anniversary cast? I'm not talking about "to a prosperous year, to our friends who are here" that makes sense, but "Think of Me" is a completely different song.

The movie has different lyrics because is was produced by a complete idiot of a director and naive actors who went along with his vision. Many of the lyrics in the movie, including "to a prosperous year, to our friends who are here" were changed because the director deviated from the original script. For example, he didn't crash the chandelier until the end of the movie. The irony is that he sighted cinematic technique for the changes, but this director has demonstrated over the years that he clearly knows nothing about movie-making.

I think the lyrics have probably undergone many changes after the premier of the musical back in 1986. As I recall, the lyrics in this version are mostly the same as the version they used when the tour came to my city in 2006 and 2009.

I can tell you for sure the changes in the lyrics were made by 1989 with the Original Canadian Cast. They probably happened about a year into the production, that's when things normally change, in the first year or two.

I have the sheet music and the book. They are reprints of the originals that I bought for singing lessons at least 15 years ago. The lyrics are, at times, drastically different (and better, IMHO) than on the Original Cast Recording. There were slight changes in "Angel of Music", but the lyrics to "Think of Me" are not the same as the ones on the original cast recording.

It's actually not uncommon for musicals to be performed with different lyrics than those heard on the original/official cast recordings. I honestly have no idea why this is (likely different reasons for different shows), but any time I've been in a musical or just sung something from a musical, the lyrics (or the length, or the key! OMG!!!!) are almost never the same as on the recordings. Operas and art songs are always performed exactly as written, but musicals...? Anything goes.

As for "Think of Me", I always imagined Charles Hart waking up in the middle of the night thinking "Flowers fade/ the fruits of Summer fade;/ they have their season.../ so did we. Bloody Hell! They recorded the blasted thing last week!" ;-)
