Preferred Miranda Richardson's Mme Giry to the RAH one
... French accent, practice skirt etc... she was one of the best in the role...
The accent really makes her sound mysterious. Since she's the only one using a French accent it works very well for that character.
shareWell, for the movie as a whole, it's a goof and really distracting that she's the *only* one with a French accent.
Miranda was very good, by all means, but I liked that stage version Mme Giry is stricter. Seems much more realistic than "oh, that's Christine Daae, just so you know, she's like a daughter to me". Too easy, no subtlety.
