Not of the stage show itself, but of the taping of the show. It was as if the director had never even seen the show before. Bad choices for camera angles all around. Several things missed because the angle was on something unimportant...
Other than that, the performances were excellent. Just too bad certain nuances will be missed of the director's choices...
One great example of is during "Why so Silent" when the Phantom walks down the stairs to the Bum, bum, bum. We should have seen reaction shots from Christine, Raoul, Giry (?) whoever...edited on the beat. I don't think there were any edits on ANY beats throughout the whole show.
I still LOVE the performance, but they could have showcased it better.
The tv presentation is always going to be different from the stage production. In the theatre you see it from a static angle from your seat. This is not what the viewer at home wants to see.
Agree. This is where a movie will always have an advantage to a taped stage version. found it much messier than the 2004 movie, but I'm sure it was mostly due to the lacking camera work/angles. A pity.
