No, I actually have the DVD, so I watched Once and jumped into it after it was over.

I love Phantom. :-). I'm a total musical theatre geek. I had no idea that this was going to be on and only found it by accident.

Very few things could bump a new Once Upon a Time to the DVR. Phantom is one. :-)

Was there any official reason why he did not perform?

Personally I think it's an outrage that he was there and did not perform, yet they had four others to do it. I rather like being able to see many people who have taken on the role, but when the original actor is there and not singing it it's disappointing. I understand if he had his reasons, whether it be contractual or personal, but he still performs, correct? It's not like he was vocally unable to handle a few bars of "Music of the Night". It's his signature song!!

I saw Phantom with Crawford and he will forever be that role to me.

There was such excitement when you came on stage at the last of the three 25th-anniversary Phantom gala performances at the Royal Albert Hall. You didn’t appear at the first two.

I couldn’t have gone to any of the others because that wouldn’t have been right for the audience here [at the Palladium, where Wizard was performing concurrently], but I certainly wanted to be at that last one on the Sunday night. I said that I couldn’t quite deal with the pressure of singing, and they were fine that, so I just walked on.

So it was his decision not to sing, not anyone else's

Thank you so much! I've been looking all over and couldn't find anything, so I appreciate the effort. At least it was his decision and not that he was squeezed out of the performance. Still unfortunate, but I'm glad he was able to make an appearance nonetheless.

I agree!
I understsnd now why he did not sing but am so happy he made the appearane anyway. It was great seeing him -- and he did join in at the end so that was sweet.
I saw him in PHANTOM in L.A. twice and he will always be the Phantom of the Opera for me!
