Love Never Dies help?

So I'm watching Love Never Dies right now and I'm just after the part where the Phantom first meets Gustave...now please pardon my french, but when the *beep* did the Phantom and Christine have sex exactly? Because from what I can decipher it was after she chose Raoul and went away, then she came back? And then the Phantom left? Am I right? Please help...haha

According to LND, she found where Erik was hiding after he abandoned the Opera House, and they spent the night together. Then because he wasn't there in the morning, she went off and married Raoul as planned. =P

It pretty much is, its based off of a book called The Phantom of Manhattan, I read it years ago and immediately tossed it aside when I was done, wondering how on earth such a horrible piece of phanfiction got published. Then when I heard it was what Webber was using for the sequel...I was more than heartbroken

Epic LND review. :)

Its absolutely incredible. I really recommend LND. It looks and sounds every bit as good as Phantom!

I think it's pretty crappy that he did a "sequel" to a play based on someone else's book. It's Leroux's book and LND essentially guts the characters he wrote. It would be one thing if ALW had conceived the story Phantom of the Opera; then he could do what he pleased. But it wasn't his story to begin with.

reply

That book was made as a sequel to Webber's musical. I love the musical, did not really love the original poto book

reply

Regardless, the ORIGINAL story is written by Leroux and they are HIS characters. ALW took LEROUX'S story and adapted it to the stage. So I don't think it's right to take someone else's characters and ruin them.

IMO, it would be like doing a "sequel" to the stage adaptation of A Tale of Two Cities and turning Darnay into a womanizer or a "sequel" to the stage adaptation of A Christmas Carol and having Tiny Tim join a gang.

*****SPOILER ALERT******

DUDE MEG KILLS CHRISTINE?! I MEAN HOW THE EFF DO YOU COME BACK FROM THAT?! And the Phantom left Christine after she banged him? WHAT BULL! Its like the guy who wrote the Phantom of Manhattan just skimmed enough of the book to get the main characters names and then just made up everything else! I MEAN THE EFF?! None of the characters act in any way that would be recognizable to even the most devoted phan.

Exactly! None of the characters even remotely resemble the characters in the book or in the musical. It just isn't believable. And the stuff that supposedly happened between Phantom and LND is ridiculous:

1. Christine slept with Erik while engaged to Raoul and after Erik tried to murder Raoul. So the heroine of Phantom is a cheap $lut. Sweet.

2. Erik slept with Christine and took off. Yeah, this is believable. All he wanted was someone who loved him for him - and he threatened to kill Raoul to get the facade of that - and yet when he actually got it, he ran off??

3. Christine woke up after sleeping with Erik to find him gone and left and married Raoul. Huh? If she wanted Erik, why didn't she just look for him? He was hanging out someplace in the Opera House and he would have showed up if she stayed.

4. Christine married a guy whom she didn't love and pawned some other guy's kid off on him. So she's a $lut and a liar! Even better. I'm glad I wasted time on such an upstanding heroine.

5. Raoul has loved Christine for his whole life and as soon as he actually gets her, he doesn't appreciate her. He risked his life to save her, I really doubt he'd just forget about her immediately (although given what she was in LND, who could blame him).

6. Raoul turned into a drunk and a gambler. These are traits that would have appeared earlier. It's not like he suddenly came into money and for the first time had money to gamble - he was born rich.

And then there is the ridiculousness of Meg and M. Giry in LND.

The Phantom of NY is definitely terrible fan fiction that should never have been published. And LND should never have been made.

Despite all the ridiculous things done to the characters in LND, I wouldn't have a problem if ALW had written the story. Then they would be his characters to ruin. If JK Rowlings decides to write a sequel where Harry turns into a lech, well, that's her right because they're her characters. But these characters were created by someone else, and I don't think ALW had the right to destroy them.

If ALW wanted to make another PTO (be it sequel or prequel) based on someone else's work, couldn't he have at least chosen Susan Kay's Phantom?

WORST. RESCUE. EVER.

reply

Ugh, Love Never Dies...

Yeah, Christine ran off to shtup the guy who murdered two people and almost murdered Raul right in front of her. Then, after nailing Christine he runs off before she wakes up (what a cad!). Ten (coughTwentycough) years later Meg is a hooker, Mme. Giry is her pimp (well, technically her madam), then Meg seemingly develops the world's quickest case of neurosyphylis and shoots and kills Christine (after first trying to kill her kid) out of jealousy for that dreamy deformed murderer? Then the kid, who was raised by Raul and thought was his father, leaves his father and still-warm dead mother to go live with the creepy guy (who wasn't uncomfortable with "Beauty Underneath"? Honestly?) that he just met.

It makes no sense.

I posted this on the Once Upon a Time board a while ago:

"Yes, I've seen it.
Can I ever forget that crap?
Can I ever escape from that plot,
So contorted, confused!
There was hardly a point to that garbage...
Garbage..."

Why didn't ALW just name Love Never Dies what he was thinking while he was writing it: Love Got Divorced, Subtitle: "The Phantom of the Opera made you famous but it's all mine and don't you forget it, Sarah."

::shudder::
Yeech.

The worst thing about Love Never Dies? As much as I hated every single moment of it, if it came to town I'd be first in line to audition for the role of Meg... Smh...
