Difference between what was streamed live + DVD?

Besides editing and different angles are the actual performances the same? I was just wondering.

Also, are the recordings on the CD the same performance that is on the DVD?

reply

As far as I know (and I'll probably be corrected if I'm wrong) the dvd is an amalgamation of two performances, with some shots from one night, some from the other.

The CD is, I believe, the same as the show (minus Sarah Brightman's performance of the title track), so is a combination of both nights. The CD is the full soundtrack, including long applause breaks.

Look, I'm sorry I called you an inanimate object earlier. I was angry.

I have a dvd of the streamed version and the final dvd, and there are some noticeable differences. Different angles and close-ups, different scenes, and at least twice they use a clip from a different scene to get a shot they wanted (such as a close up of Christine and the Phantom on the bridge to the lair).

Ramin goes crazy when Sierra first pulls off his mask, too. Yelling crazy. It isn't in the DVD performance. I think they went back and recorded that.

They didn't re-record anything. They filmed all three performances and merged the different performances when necessary.

reply

FALSE! it was admited they re-recorded.

They only used footage from the live stream performance and re-edited the camera angles- the throwing of fireballs looks much better!. Damn you was recorded after the fact. You may notice the lipsync is slightly off. It was done post show. Secondly Piangi's big high note at the beginning was rerecorded because he cracked on the note live.

One screw up- in act 2- Notes 2 Madame giry is lipsyncing the wrong words due to a bad edit. Something about fearing the Angels fury is the lyric- flip on subtitles and you will catch it more clearly.

That was done on purpose, and he still "screwed up" on the home video release.

They definitely rerecorded scenes aside from the actual performances. In the version without edits in the title song they never zoom in on the actors on the catwalk/bridge and only show them from the back because they are doubles. If you pay attention, there is no way they got from the mirror up there in just a few seconds. They reshot closeups of the actual actors to edit in with the doubles and it's even more obvious because there are shots where his mouth doesn't match up or the positions don't match up from shot to shot.

The home video release is a combination of multiple performances.
To be honest, I wish I had access to the streamed version. The editing on the DVD is distractingly overdone.
