The 'Go now and leave me' line
What do you think about the way Ramin screamed it?
shareThe shouting at no one in particular seemed a little off. Perhaps it wuld have been better as a softer 'go now' then when christine is reluctant to leave he shouts it at her, almost as if he was scaring her off to protect her from the oncoming mob, or if he had yelled it more in an off stage direction as if he was yelling at the mob.
Look, I'm sorry I called you an inanimate object earlier. I was angry.
Exactly! To me it was very screamo metal like and my concern was if he has done this every show? His voice would be hurt from that and he sings so beautiful!
shareI can see what you guys are saying; I cringed a little seeing it too. But watching it again I disagree with your belief that it was unnecessary. I don't think him screaming was for her to hear him. I think it was more out of heartache. The way he said it, it wasn't just "Go and leave me," but "Go and leave me like everyone else in my life has." I mean, think about it. If you lived your whole life in solitude simply because of your face and you finally found someone you can trust to be close enough to, only to find out that that person is leaving you too, wouldn't that piss you off enough to scream like that? LOL! Just saying...
Sorry for my s#!++y posts if they look it. Posting from an Android phone can quite ducky. Oh crap.
Personally, I loved it. So much power.
shareYou are correct and incorrect in this. He does scream his anguish in a metal(screamo) style. Being a metal screamer, there is a way that this can be done (and is obviously being done) that avoids injury. He may be far more qualified than many new metal screamers because of his operatic training. A person can just let go and scream but this specific metal scream requires a certain techniique and shaping of your throat in a certain way that while exercising huge amounts of control enables the screamer to do live concerts and performances. Further, speaking strictly for myself, if I do this controlled scream, it opens and clears my throat so I can actually sing from my diaphragm more clearly.
It is in no way an easy technique to aquire but you can easily tell this from a customary, non-controlled scream from the way certain words and phrases sound. Example (at least with my American accent): The word 'fight' almost sounds like 'Foyt.' I wish I could prove it in this case and with this Iranian phantom, but the phrase 'Go now and leave me!' isn't altered in a perceptible way, especially when you consider he is putting on an English accent. In the backstage footage he sounds to have a more American sounding accent. Additionally the metal scream is unlike the uncontrolled scream in tone or timber. An example would be metal bands with female vocalists such as Kittie or Walls of Jericho. When you listen to these vocalists for the first time, it is hard to believe that the low toned voice you hear comes from a female.
I for one loved the metal anguished scream that Ramin Karimloo lets loose in his Phantom incarnation, especially compared to Gerard Butler's pathetic attempt at singing the line.
lol I could not agree more! While I adore Gerard Butler he was definitely a little lacking in passion in that feeble attempt compared to Ramin's Phantom.
shareWhile it took me by complete surprise..I thought it was great!
shareI LOVVVED it!! It added SO much emotional depth to the Phantom in his anguish over knowing that once again, he was going to be 'alone'. Heart-wrenching! And it wasn't like he was speaking directly to Christine (they were already gone). Personally I think Ramin added so much to this role! Everything from this and the "angel in hell" line, to other scenes when his hands are visibly shaking!
shareI don't think any of them should be screaming at all and someone needs to tell them to STOP NOW.
Screaming 8 shows a week WILL cause vocal damage.
I don't want to read in ten years that RK can no longer sing without a wobble and has lost half an octave.
Ramin, if you are reading this, STOP SCREAMING.
Sing it on a predetermined pitch. Crescendo into it. Sing "Just take her and go before it's too late." as quietly as the mics will allow (whispering is harmful too). Sing the first "Go now" louder. Then sing "Go now and leave me!" ff, as loudly as you can without strain.
Phans don't let Phantoms get nodules.
One name: Julie Andrews.
Stop screaming.
