Too slow and too modern. Doesn't feel like the period

And what's with the slow arc? We gotta untangle the dead baby tale for a whole season or something?

Matthew Rhys was great in the early seasons of the Americans but now he only seems to be able to play semi dead pessimists.

I watched the pilot and enjoyed it thoroughly. I did not think it felt particularly slow and the performances and production design are exquisite. If the rest of the season can maintain this level of quality I think I'll be happy with it.

I agree.

What? It feels like Los Angeles in the ‘30s to me. Big time. The attention to detail is amazing.

This show is one show that cannot continue the formula of the original, so it is just the name for the sake of branding. The show is something cooked up new with little Easter eggs of the old show to push fans' nostalgia buttons.

I just think this show is going to die and quick and painful death. And Matthew Rhys as Perry Mason?

It actually feels just right for the period, but the OP has fled the scene of the crime, so we can’t get a clarification.
