reply

I don't know what to say tbh, this movie explains why we haven't had season 2 yet.

reply

How does this movie explain why we haven't received a season 2 yet? :/

I'm guessing the movie takes time away from the show? Which is why we getting new season in 2016 now, after the movie is released in mid 2015.

reply

nope. Japan likes to over saturate its markets, and having them air at the same time just means that one will promote the other.

that being said, the reason the anime hasnt dived into season 2 yet is that they are hoping to keep the manga two story arcs (roughly 13 episodes/chapters per arc) ahead of the anime so they don't "overcome" it. think like whats happening with game of thrones.

or better what happened to Full Metal Alchemist.

Honestly? I am a bit worried. The anime is the perfect medium for this story ... time is naturally displaced creating tension that i do not believe can be recreated on film. Take the scenes where our heroes whiz through the forest like ninja Spiderman ... anime can present still shots where the characters seemingly just float through the air as if gravity does not even exist. Live? This is going to look cheeeeeeesy if the filmmakers try to recreate. And if they don't, then we miss all the important insight that the character is thinking -- there is a LOT of this in the anime.

I find it a shame that the filmmakers could not feasibly cast non-Japanese people in this one ... but i understand how hard that is to pull off, so i won't fault the film here. Shame they could not team up with other countries on this one. Most everyone in the story is of mixed race.

Finally ... colors. The anime is rich with greens and blues. The movie looks drab and dirty.

reply

Well, I think the point was to make it look drab and dirty post apocalyptic. You know, realistic.

I really, really liked it and am looking forward to the sequels. :)

i admit i never heard of anything having to do with AOT until i saw the trailer for the live action movie. i just watched it and i actually kind of liked it. it's not a good movie if one is looking for a well written, well acted, layered storyline type of film but if you are looking for a fun, mindless, popcorn type action/horror movie with INCREDIBLY creepy/disturbing giant creatures in it (they are excellent IMO) then you may like this movie. IMO it's a decent creature feature.

reply

I thought it was a dumb idea, because the titans wouldn't translate well and they wouldn't be able to do the fight scenes.

The movie was bad, but the titans looked as creepy as they do in the anime and manga. The zip line fights were pretty cool, the only real thing with the special effects was that the collosual titan was way too tall and not proportioned as well as the other titans. A live action movie can work as a spinoff or prequel, but trying to tell us a story that tries to squeeze the content of a manga and anime into 2 hours just makes for a *beep* story especially since everyone one will compare it.

reply

Well it's absolute garbage that's completely missing the point. I can't believe they could f up so badly. It's wrong all the way from the start. None of the characters are the same, and none of them are good. Mikasa is sickening to watch. Japanese can't act. The characters are wrong, their goals and reasons and ideas are wrong, the architecture is wrong, the tech is wrong, the timing is wrong, any backstories are omitted altogether, AND THEY DIDN'T EVEN BOTHER TO NAME THE DAMN WALLS... It's hollow, shallow and pointless and SO loosely based on the manga it doesn't even deserve the name! Even if I hadn't seen the anime beforehand I wouldn't have found this even remotely good. Dumbest junk this year. Possibly ever, because it definitely beats Bay's Transformers on the level of wrong and disgraceful... Shingeki No Kyojin IN NAME ONLY!

reply

Did we watch the same movie? Can you honestly say it was the "dumbest just this year"?
As a fan of the anime, I loved the movie. They captured the Titans and the 3D gear perfectly. Yes they changed the characters, but they kept the flavor of the anime which is: Humanity is isolated and trapped behind walls, and giants come to eat them from time to time.
Awesome and highly recommended for fans of the anime.

- IMHO...Movies last 10 years keep getting blander, TV Shows keep getting better.

We all have different standards. I abhor the film, but I'm by no means a fan-geek. I watched the anime only once and have never read the manga. Though I have seen a lot of movies and this one deserves to be called garbage. The acting alone is enough to make me cringe. None of the characters is likable. Most are either wimps or hot-heads who aren't at all convincing as soldiers specially trained to fight Titans. Lots of character deaths from the anime were truly gut-wrenching, and they stay with you long after you've seen the whole series. Watching this movie, however, I felt nothing when a character gets eaten. They're useless and deserve their awful demise.

reply

No, hell no!
The anime is not just about the gore and the base plot, it's also the delivery.
Every scene till ep 24 has a major meaning in the overall progress.
There are tiny hidden details everywhere helping you to understand more, if you so wish to dig... or you can do like most and wait for Erwin and Armin to explain it to you. That's what made it such a master piece to me.

So if all you care is "Humanity is isolated and trapped behind walls, and giants come to eat them from time to time." then sure the movie is awesome.. though titans don't really "eat" humans as they cannot digest them.. which is something the movie has not gone into yet, although it's a major part of the plot to me in the manga/anime... Eating is a basic instinct of all species, because well you want to survive... but titans don't need to swallow humans at all, they're like plants and live from sunlight, so WHY do they attack humans? How could the movie skip that HUGE question is beyond me... Sure they could do it in the sequel, but I feel like it should be there in the 1st movie, as it shows us how little we do know about the titans motive...

reply

Read the manga, they explain almost everything by the chapter 72
