Another negative review

"The nonexistence of Eren's mother in this adaptation gives the protagonist no believable reason to join the army for revenge against the Titans. In this film, he's just jealous that Mikasa (Kiko Mizuhara) is banging the skillful Captain Shikishima (Hiroki Hasegawa). Which idiot turned this into a cheap romance nonsense? Mikasa is not Eren's adopted sister here, instead she's just an ordinary useless girlfriend at the beginning, who's too stupid to stand up and runaway when in danger." "The nonexistence of Eren's mother in this adaptation ..."

is outright criminal. They even set the scene up and then just drop the ball. I'm not sure what is worse ... omitting Eren's mother completely or killing off his dad before that ENTIRE plot line could be established: "Hey Main Character?!? Isn't that your father about to be eaten??!" *father gets eaten*

And then there is this version of Mikasa which has no backstory whatsoever other than she just "disappeared." Anyone who watched this and has not seen the anime is missing out on an extremely compelling backstory that easily could have been in the movie instead of wasted scenes like Hiana (brand new character invented to fill gap left by trying to stray from original story and then realizing what a mistake you made).

Indeed. I liked the part where the production company logos popped up and it was all downhill from there.

I actually paid to see it in the cinemas and boy was I embarassed for the makers of this.
