I really enjoyed the concept and many of the action sequences. The acting and dialogue could have been better. Mikasa was fantastic.
I have not seen the anime, but can see the anime fans seem to be disappointed with the movie. I would still recommend the movie - hope I can see the second part on big screen.
the movie is cool for what it is and given the budget it had. The anime is interesting but nothing there is really new. The movie gets a tad more gruesome than the anime as well which is good.

This is precisely why the movie is so terrible. It does not share the true concept of the anime/mange and the action sequences are better realized in the anime.
I think the movie had some fun moments and some good action scenes. I would also like to see the anime as I like the concept. Thankfully i'm able to differentiate and be objective. A trait that people who have seen both movies apparently do not inherit.
P.s. What I am unable to comprehend is why in absolutely every Japanese movie they can't talk like normal people. It's always convoluted nonsensical dialogue.
Having Japanese friends, a lot of them really talk like this. Americans and Europeans probably think it's bad acting but the over emotional high pitched flair ups in conversation is apparently part of their culture. When in business or politics they have a much less emotional demeanor and that could be a class distinction (think serious samurai compared to silly kabuki actors).

shareA buddy of mine is from Kobe where a lot of the Japanese comedians are from. He says everyone there acts like that and jokes quite a bit. Other regions may not be as over the top but it is still in line with the culture and entertainment industry. I have another friend who's in her 40s and still does all the high pitched voices and loves cartoony characters and all in her messages. You'd think she was 13.

shareI have now seen some of the cartoons. It makes no bloody sense. There is a complete disconnect between characters emotions and their motivation and the plot is nonsensical. I can not recommend this to anyone. It is far worse than the movie however which I can recommend as a fun sunday popcorn flick.
