I honestly liked it

Yes, it is cheesy in a lot of places but I honestly liked it. I'm a big fan of the manga and anime. The movie did alter the lore however, there was a lot things to cover in one movie if they wanted it to be exact to the manga. I personally feel the movie kept the core elements of the manga and worked from there to make a story that can fit into an hour and 40 minute movie. If you want a 1:1 copy of the manga, we have the anime for that. Having this movie doesn't lessen the manga, anime or it's followers. Enjoy the movie and take it for what it is, a cheesy monster movie that keeps the core of the franchise intact. Also, massive shout out to Satomi Ishihara for her portrayal as Hange, she was the best character adaptation in the movie.

This is my opinion, if you don't share it, that's fine. We all like different things.

I do not share that opinion. The FACT is ... the movie threw out the core of the manga and rewrote the story. Anyone who reads the manga and then watches the movie will KNOW this to be TRUE. 

I totally agree I didn't try to compare it to the anime I took it for what it was a Giant Monster movie by Toho. I must say to the opening scene with the banging of the wall and then the screaming of the Giant Titan and the breach and chaos after was amazing that was just such an awesome scene that's what hooked me. I don't think it tried to stay true to the manga or anime it was more just used as an influence to make a Giant Monster movie.

"Giant Monster movie" 5.3/10

The anime 8.9/10

Just taking the ratings for "what they are" ...

Totally agree. Was an entertaining bit of fluff. Visually fun to watch Titans and ODM gear. This movie was true enough to the story to be called Attack on Titan, but with enough differences to at least keep you wondering "what next?" I don't think any adaptation needs to be be 100% true to the source. 60-75% is good enough as long as its entertaining.

And if you want a substandard, run of the mill, cheesy "giants eating humans" watered down story then you have the movie for that. Too bad it sucks.

Here's a thought ... skip the movie watch the anime. 

I like neither manga nor anime - but have no problem to say that I liked the movie for what it is and can't wait for the second part.

You are a shill who is trying to promote the movie, without regard to its quality. 

The movie is awful. The anime is great.

Barney, you are a hater who has too much time in his hands. I tried the anime on youtube - it is definitely not for me.
BTW did you know that your friends are all shills too (whatever f... it means)?

There you go. You are not a credible source for advice about the movie. You actually think you can judge something fully by watching clips of it on Youtube.

you're not a credible source at all. 

I have to admit, I liked the movie. It didn't meet my expectations, but I still enjoyed it.

Like you, I'm not a big fan of anime in general and I enjoyed the movie. Having never watched the anime version I saw the first half of the live action version first and now I too can't wait to see the conclusion. Until I do, I'm watching the anime on Netflix and I'm finding that I do (strangely enough) enjoy it and much more so than the movie. But, I still like the movie for what it is. Just because some of us don't enjoy the same things as other doesn't make our opinions less valid. To each their own I suppose.

I liked it too and I happen to be a fan of the anime as well...

Hell yeah! The anime is awesome, one of my favorites.

The movie did a number of things better than the anime.

The despair of the village when it was being attacked, and the somber atmosphere of the military especially stand out. There were also nods to the anime such as Sasha, and the gun-in-mouth suicide. The characterization, dare I say it, is more realistic. But hey, young kids obsessed about the anime only want Eren to be a shouting, psychotic hero.

So what if it's "not faithful" to the anime? Who cares? Last Airbender's story was more accurate, but that still didn't prevent it from being an awful movie. I came into the Attack on Titan movie expecting epic titan battles and it delivered.
