Since his wife told him about the game, she should be disqualified. One of the rules was not to tell anyone about it. Why then he was so terrified if she had eaten the fly??She wouldn't participate anymore eiter way. Am i missing something?
She couldn't be disqualified because she made it clear she wasn't interested in playing anyway, why do you think she put the fly into the bin?
Also, he was terrified about her eating the fly because it would mean that she wanted to play the game, which would also mean doing the same insane things that he had to do....maybe even worse things.
Only dream I ever have is it the surface of the Sun. Every time I shut my eyes it's always the same.
I think the point OP was making was since she was telling him about the game he shouldn't have been worried, since the rules of the game were you weren't allowed to tell anyone about it. So even if she had ate the fly it wouldn't matter because she would have gotten disqualified for telling him. So in the end the movie tried to get one final thrill in but failed because of it's own rules it had set up.
Also, she didn't technically tell him about "the game", she told him about some guy who offered her 6000 dollars to eat a fly. She didn't know it was a full-blown, professionally organized game.
He wasn't terrified, he was relieved and she didn't eat the fly. Did you actually watch the ending? She said she didn't eat it and she threw it in the garbage bin.
My friend..i clearly stated that there is no difference if she had eaten the fly or not. Obviously she didn't, but that is not my point. Try to understand what i am saying and then post something. It seems that you were the one who didn't watch the end carefully. At first he was terrified (since you also make a without substance comment about his emotianal state just to argue), and then he was releaved when he knows she didn't eat the fly. But that is not what i am saying again. It's a scene without a meaning since she would be disqualified the moment he told him about the proposal she had. This was clearly stated from the beggining. So my point is that he wouldn't care about her eating the fly or not in the first place, since she couldn't have played anymore even if she wanted to. Others have clearly understood this point in this board. Why couldn't you? Try to see what others want to say first and do not comment what you have in my mind regardless the point of the conversation..a truly friendly comment
the proposal and acceptance of the game doesn't begin until after the person swallows the fly. if she was thinking of swallowing it, she could mention it to anyone. after swallowing it, she would have got the call outlining the rules of the game, and been asked to consent with the "dance with the golden toad" line. he is relieved because she refused to swallow it.
also, it adds to the scene that he's dying and the symbolic fly represents to him all he's done and all lost.
It's nice to be ignorant, isn't it? I wasn't trying to argue but it's cool if you want to point the finger in that direction. Actually, I did read what you wrote but it doesn't make a slice of sense because the director and the writers were aware of this fact. Yes, I understand what you were saying how she would be automatically disqualified because she revealed the game to him but as another poster kindly stated, the rules of the game are not revealed until after she eats the fly. Yes, he definitely appeared nervous and relieved but if she ate it or didn't, it wouldn't technically make her disqualified as again, the rules are not revealed until after she eats the fly. So she could have in theory, told him about it, ate the fly and not be disqualified or ate the fly, told him about it and still not be disqualified. That's how the game essentially works as stated in the beginning (or maybe you missed that part). No hard feelings regardless and maybe you made an assumption that the director/writers were ignorant to this but I just feel they deserve the upper-hand as they were involved in this production and knew what they were doing.
Random bit: I accidentally went to your profile and was shocked to see we watched nearly all of the same films (half of which I don't think I even rated yet). Your film taste is very similar to mine and I recently watched the same films you have. Props to you.
Ultimately, she can be disqualified at any time simply by them draining her account and never calling her again. Once the rules are stated, my first reaction was: If they can deposit money into my account and remove the money once I'm disqualified, what's to stop them from removing the money when I complete the 13th round? I would have to put all my trust into these people who are spying on me, controlling me (and others around me) and convincing me do mean and dangerous things to other people. Are these people on the phone trustworthy? Really?
