I was with this movie until.... *spoilers*

He killed the detective...... like come on.... so he had to witness his dad death and killed his brother (in self defense) they were both burdens that was now gone. he had his wife and unborn kid and 5.5 million dollars. the pain of it all wouldve gotten better( i dont think he wouldve ended up like his dad, he was gonna kill his dad for good reason and wasnt gonna kill the brother)
i wouldve kept the money

i wouldve accepted the ending only if after talking his wife on phone he shot himself or died on bench from wounds

Same here, I didn't understand the logic behind that at all.

What's been done has been done. Killing the detective might have been nice for 'revenge' but in the end, what did it matter? You still did all these awful things and now you don't even have anything to show for it.

The key is in the discussion with the investigator who mentions what people turn into as the game progresses. Killing the detective (only after knowing the trail of evidence was destroyed, of course) was his way of retaining that last shred of humanity of and for himself.

A morality play, I suppose. But yeah, the reality is that the game would always continue with or without the detective and now he is unemployed, a baby on the way and from what I can gather, two brothers who are probably pretty pissed off at him for busting a chair across one brother's teeth and.. well....

Yeah, should have taken the money.

Yeah I mean that was what the filmmakers were trying to do I think with this ending is like, say that he wanted to keep whatever good part of himself while possible.

By murdering another person?

Exactly. Mixed, muddled messages are mixed and muddled.

yeah the script writers messed up with this one imo. at the end of the day the 'protagonist' is broke, has a dead father and brother, a pessimistic future and killed a detective in cold-blood.

had he just accepted the money and not killed the detective, he would be a millionaire, comfortably raise his wife and child in luxury, have the freedom to do whatever he wanted, and have not killed a guy a guy in cold-blood. While he would still have a dead father and brother, he would be rich lol.

Ending really annoyed me. it's like the script writers were trying to make some kind of morality play that made no sense, as someone else said. hard to cheer a guy on when he blasts a big hole through the back of someone's head that was a part of the same game that the guy was selfishly playing just about the whole movie.
