Why would someone want their lower arm sawed off?

I assumed he was playing the game as well. His challenge was to lose the arm in order to get the prize. Guess he needed the cash pretty badly.

That's possible but also, he would have to be incredibly stupid to have his life messed up. He risks infection and death. He risks death right then and there during the cutting. Even if he survives, he is going to live armless.

I think he was also a contestant. I assume they were going to reattach his arm back since Elliot put his arm in a bag filled with ice, which he later gave to the nurse at the hospital
