A former British Army officer, who was tormented as a prisoner of war.

Tormented?

Can someone please define this word for me, as in my opinion being tormented bears no significance whatsoever to what happened to these men at the hands of the Japanese during these times.

Maybe it is P.C. gone a bit too far and we can no longer use the word torture?

Other than that I found it a very moving film, excellent acting all round.

I'm sure I heard the word 'torture' being used. Is it possible that the audio was changed for different releases?

This is in the imdb description. Maybe they don't want to give too much of the plot way? In my opinion it's better to not know the extent of "torment" in advance. I was expecting more, something on Zero Dark Thirty level.
