SUCH a propaganda film...

...to make the public think every drone strike with civilian casualties involves a carefully analyzed proportionality/risk assessment with multiple Secretaries of State hovering over the mission to make final judgment calls and a tear in the eye of the triggerman once the die is cast...

The remote control beatle was pretty sweet though!

The "tear" factor got nauseating after a while and was the only element about the film that I disliked. If the military is putting such milk-toasts in key positions, we're all in trouble. For anyone with a conscience, civilian deaths are always tragic and avoided if possible, but terrorists always surround themselves with innocents, both when they kill and when they hide.

My people skills are fine. It's my tolerance of morons that needs work.

The more subtle piece of propaganda in the film is the insinuation that politicians should completely turn things over to the military officers once an operation is underway.

If the British politicians hadn't spent so much time hemming and hawing the little girl never would have walked into the line of fire in the first place.

They also nearly got their man on the ground killed with all the dithering and asking him to buy the bread from the little girl. Why did they think his life was worth any less than hers?

Maybe it's just my experience but the film made me ask myself moral questions. The film doesn't set out to be an honest reflection of how war is conducted but more of an analogy or allegorical story provoking debate over the right and wrong of the basic principle of whether the ends truly justify the means. I did not get the impression that the film was making a moral declaration given the opposing viewpoints of the characters.

It seems viewers took the story as a literal depiction of war and that the film was trying to generalize that experience, which explains your and many other angry tirades and statements about the film. While those statements are based more on what biases the viewer is assigning to the film rather than what the film is actually depicting or saying, it is part of the overall discussion I think the view is trying to provoke.
