Just doing a little research, haven't found any evidence for a bug drone as seen in the movie but the hummingbird drone is very real. This is a video from 2011 showing the prototype in action.

shareThat hummingbird drone sounds like a chainsaw idling,lol. Whereas the real hummingbirds make very little noise, there's dozens of them at my parents house at the feeder on the porch and one can easily fly in and land 5 feet away without noticing.
The drone beetle they used in the film was really cool, probably the best thing in the film for me. Unlike the drone hummingbird it was a 1/4 the size and very quiet. Someday maybe, but in order to have enough power to operate the massive wing repetition and the camera and WiFi antenna and make it quiet enough to go unnoticed is one massive undertaking.
This seems to be the latest in real-life gizmos, I doubt the bug sized one shown in the film is technically possible yet.

No way in hell it was possible with current tech. At the very least it would make a ton of noise and only last for a few minutes.

yeah unless ur tied into defense sector or at least a research place like DARPA its impossible to know how far we've come in this tech. $100k camera on a bird drone would be a drop in the bucket to the military.... come on now

I'm sure it exists - when you see the drones available to the public now and know that the technology was developed for the military , you just have to know that what is available to the public is far far behind what is available to the military...cool video though, thanks for the link.
