Alan Rickman's Last Line
What a moving exit line from Alan Rickman's character, 'Never tell a soldier that he does not know the cost of war.' I'd see the movie again just to see that scene. That man could deliver a line.

shareIt wasn't his last line.

Agreed. Incredibly poignant line. He was perfect.
shareI thought exactly the opposite. Most acting in this movie was ok, not outstanding but ok. However that line felt so badly acted to me.
shareIt felt like a physical punch, the way he said that, just with the understated power of his voice. God, I will miss him. One of the all-time greats.
I too will miss Alan Rickman. Not only a great actor but a fantastic voice. With regards to his "last line" about knowing the cost of war... a soldier would not know the gritty grab your guts to the nth degree cost until a beloved family member was part of the cost. Yes, the death of soldier comrades is excrutiating but soldiers go into war knowing they could die or their comrades could die. There is some expectation that death will be a result. Unless you live in the war zone, soldiers DO NOT expect their loved ones to die as a result.
When the captain brought the doll he had exchanged for the general, that point was made albeit rather obliquely.
