They shouldn't have shown the creature in full detail in the end

They should have left something to the imagination. Non-CGI / edge of your seat moments in scary movies are the most tense and terrifying.

That's why all of the scary parts of the movie were creepy up until that point.

It should have probably ended with us seeing some dark figure within the water as the cockpit filled up with water and we got a glimpse of the bio-luminescence. That would have been WAY more terrifying imo.

Also, when they showed the underwater submersible, they shouldn't have shown so much light through the ice. It should have been darker and the only light source should have been from the probe itself.

I can see this argument either way in some films, such as Blair Witch Project. Not seeing the witch made it scarier.

In a film like Europa Report, however, I appreciated the little view we have at the end. Since the entire movie is kind of a review of the mission after it happened, seeing the life from kind of made the whole thing real. Would we go back to a world knowing there are potentially harmful life forms?

I agree. It was right to show the creature in the end. The final astronaut made the sacrifice to ensure that the images and story of what had happened got back to Earth.

Doing that for a shape that could be dismissed by many would have been a shame.

To me, I'm glad they showed it. It still triggered my imagination as to what other things are out there and I would have felt cheated had they not given me something to digest.

It's organic movement within the water was enough to give me shudders that the final astronaut wasn't going to have a pleasant 'encounter'.

I kind of don't think there are more harmful living beings in the universe than the mankind.

Was this actually a 'scary movie'? Yes, there were moments that were 'scary', but it was more of a 'good' science fiction film, in that it dealt with what is quite a reasonable scientific proposition - that there is life, of some sort, on Europa and this is what the film shows. The crew's motivation was to see if there was life on Europa and, at the end, the last two members of the crew went out of their way to send a signal to show what they had found, even to the extent of the pilot opening the airlock to let the creature in so that it could be captured on film. If, after all that, all they'd ended up with was a blurred image, it would have meant that their sacrifice was in vain. Basically, I don't think the ending was meant to be terrifying - the last words of both Katya and Andrei seem to convey a sense of wonder - 'Are you seeing this?' - than fear, while Rosa wants to see the creature for herself - she didn't have to open the airlock, after all.
