i love how this film was negated by a point early on

that it had originally been an unmanned venture. if it had remained that all those lives could have been saved and still allowed for the same discovery. also all the contamination of Europa resulting from this botched voyage (which is a major problem real scientists wish to avoid) wouldnt have happened. sure it wouldnt have made for an interesting movie... but it makes the people in this movie seem all the stupider for being there.

reply

exactly.

and I love the fact that ALL had to land on Europa. in real life one or two crewmember would have stayed in the orbiting command module in case something goes wrong. but the stupid script dictated that they all had to die so they all landed on the moon.

such an idiotic movie.

reply

The two crew who were supposed to stay "up there"? One was dead and the other psychologically unstable. So YES they took him with them, in case he went crazy while alone.
Why did the "lander" have 6 seats? Because it was the part that brought the crew from the Earth's surface to the ship. 🚀
These are simple, clearly explained things. Shame if YOU FAILING to understand it lowered your opinion of the film... and the OP too!

reply

hey idiot! then why didnt they abort the mission? they had lost two critical crewmember, but NOOOO they all have to land. a real life mission would have already been aborted.

Shame that you ate up all this stupid movie and your simplistic mind never considered a logical standpoint. you just a simple minded, fanboyish viewer who protects his fav movies at all cost. PATHETIC.

One being dead and the other unstable(which btw, if you notice, does not carry on to be true as that character maintains his sanity unlike what we expected) doesn't make a difference my friend, they absolutely without a doubt would have left one Astronaught in the orbiting module. There would be NO chances like that taken on a deep space mission, it is incredibly obtuse to even think that. Yes, it was added for dramatic effect. And yes, I still like the film. Stop berating other people for not agreeing with you. You sound like a baby.

reply

Good golly. It was unreasonable to make an unmanned TEST FLIGHT ok? So the very first flight was manned. Geez Louise!
Hey, lets test it first, then in a few years we'll try again with people on board! Bzzz! Wrong!
Remember the US Shuttle Program? They fired it with humans on board, no "test flights" that I recall... ditto for the moon landing. They didn't land an "unmanned module" first, correct? DUH!!

"hey idiot! then why didnt they abort the mission? they had lost two critical crewmember, but NOOOO they all have to land. a real life mission would have already been aborted."

From your extensive experience of real life missions?

Whatever, Buzz.

I'm pretty sure this is just a science fiction film, made to entertain ordinary people. As opposed to intergalactic, space hardened travellers of the nether realms such as yourself.

By the way, mission control called. They said, they're taking you off the next mission if you don't start using capital letters like a grown up.

reply

Yeah it was a bit unrealistic that a unmanned flight would be sent to Europa first to test things before we actually send people there.

General rule of thumb is unmanned missions cost roughly 1/100 of a manned mission

You are thick as *beep*.
