Pretty Good. I really liked it.

Good acting. Relatively unknown actors at least to me made it more believable. The sets were realistic looking not saturated with colors that make it look like a dance club. No Victoria Secret type model playing a pilot or scientist. No Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt type playing Mission Commander. The script was good. Etc etc way better than corny and cheesy Mission to Mars and Red Planet that's for sure.

I agree. It may not be a great movie, but I loved the realism, and the cast definitely was a big factor for it. The acting felt very natural.

reply

Exactly. Wished they made more like this.

The only thing that really bothered me about it was the idea of this space crew with no one being in charge. But otherwise yes, pretty good movie.

reply

Never thought of it but you are right. Good point. Who WAS the Mission Commander? Had to have been one of the pilots because the others were Mission Specialists but I don't know.

reply

I *think* but may well be wrong, it was the last person killed. Just something about the things she said and stuff. But she wasn't any Captain Kirk was she, putting things to a vote! It reminds me of the old East German movie "From The Dust of Stars" or something like that . The Captain kept crying because her crew didn't respect her.

reply

I think so too. lol @ she left everything to a vote! What kind of commander is that??? As we used to say in the military we are here to fight for democracy NOT practice it.

reply

The first loss of life is when the one guy disregarded repeated orders to stop working on the side of the ship and the second when the crew person wouldn't come back. Who knows, if that section hadn't been damaged in the first incident maybe the fuel line wouldn't have frozen and gotten them all killed..

reply

It was William (the Chinese), it was mentioned when the crew was introduced early-ish in the film: "Our captain is William Xu."

I really liked this film! It is a much more intelligently made sci-fi film than what we normally see nowadays. It is not perfect, and some of the actions of the characters are questionable, but there is obviously a greater effort here to create a hard-science type of film that the likes of, say, Star Wars or the recent Alien movies.

If you like this film, try these too:

Moon
Sunshine
2001 Space Odyssey
2010 (not as good as 2001 but still pretty good)
Intrastellar
Gravity
Solaris (Russian version is better)
Apollo 13 (a bit Hollywoodish but well-made overall)

I wish that someday, we may see an intelligent adaptation of "Rendezvous with Rama."

It's a well made movie with really not a lot to say. Not much happens in it, but it was real easy to sit through.
