For a much better Italian gangster series you should watch the classy Romanzo Criminale . A great story , fine acting and a superb soundtrack. It puts Gomorrah into the shade .

they are totally different.
started watching RC and somehow don't quite enjoy the vibe.
too "produced" for my taste.
also don't like that "history in the background" at all.
i very much prefer the gritty realism style of Gomorra.
even if some episodes are not tight, and some stories are "too familiar",
it's far more gripping and intense IMO.

Totally agree with what Paesan said even though for THESE reasons I prefer Romanzo criminale. Let's say Gomorra is too "scary", knowing it's very close to truth and it's what happens NOW.

As soon as Season 1 is available with official English subtitles I will be sure to check it out. Unfortunately, I have only seen versions with Dutch or Italian sometimes Spanish subtitles. Only Season 2 has official Eng subs.

Hi, season 1 of Romanzo Criminale DVD (not bluray sadly) is available with english subtitles, its on Amazon but doesn't seem to come up with a simple search:

How can you consider Ciro close to satan himself. I'm on episode 8 and while these guys were gangsters, he does not seem as bad as the gangsters/drug dealers you read about. The storyline was weak.

Very true - Gomorrah was weak compared to RC. I don't see how it got the high ratings. The actors were not that great, the storyline was not well developed, and I had a hard time believing any of the locals took these idiots as tough guys.

There were so many weak plots like the Africans, killing the girl in the wedding shop, Gennaro becoming boss, etc.

Totally agree. Romanzo Criminale is the real deal, Gomorrah is just a decent watch

I loved them both but find it difficult it to compare them. RC is a sprawling epic, with the characters, clothes and cars changing with the decades. The story has a scope wider than gomorrahs, with real events thrown in and the conspiratorial nature of the government. It also had the benefit of an extra series to pull all this off.

Despite all that i feel the story telling of gommorah is tighter and the production more stylish. However gommorah still has another series to run which could either elevate it or kill it.

Writing this i got the feeling that if you asked Sergio leone and Michael Mann to direct an italian crime drama, RC and gommorah would probably be the results.

Exactly. Each series are different, wonderfull of their own. Its better to simply watch both instead of comparing them, obviously you can but BOTH are worth watching if you are interested in mob kind of series.
