Do I have to see the first two Charles Swan movies first?

It seems like this is the third in a series of films but I can't find any information on the first two movies

No the second one only! First one is not required viewing but gives a bit of back story!

I liked the first one more. It had better character building. :D

The guy's name is "Charles Swan III", the movie isn't a sequel. ;)

I enjoyed the first one, Private Lives, way back when it came out in 1986.

The second one (Grants of Charles Swan) not so much...

Hope this third one concludes the trilogy with a bang.

(I also hope they bring back Michael Keaton's character from the first one...)

It's so cool that Murray is back! I thought he died at the end of the second one? I guess it was left up to interpretation...

reply

Uhm, Murray's character was killed off at the end of the first film, not the second one.

DO NOT ENTRY

I think he manifested "death" at the end of the first was more of a figurative representation of society rather than a literal death, which is probably why his character is back in the third film.

Heres how i rank them

Charles Swan 2
Charles Swan 3
Charles Swan

I tried watching the first Charles Swan but it was way over my head. The too-subtle characterizations, the weird symbolism with the oatmeal and the butter knife. The cat in the foreground through most of the shots. Not sure what the director was thinking. I found the second one to be more profound yet the cameo with Adam Sandler channeling John Gielgud was bizarre and I'm not sure why he was in it.

Looking forward to the third one to wrap things up. Hopefully no more cat shots.

I predict in a few years they will make 3 prequels then the whole franchise will get bought by Disney,

You stay classy, San Diego.... I'm Ron Burgundy?

reply

Just to have Keaton make a big come back for the third one would be great!

I don't think Adam Sandler will be appearing now that he is a big name movie star.

This whole thread has me cracking up!!!! You people are SILLY!!! I love IMDB msg. boards. The actual movie is great BTW. THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

reply

You should TS. This is one of the greatest movie trilogies of all time.

reply

I just hope they don't botch the three prequels with inane political plotting, over-reliance on CGI and insulting characters named Char-Char Swinks or something.

reply

The second one was very convoluted. The lesbian scene with Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis comes out of nowhere. However, the first one was pretty good. It was inspired casting to include both Keith David and David Keith.
