The Monkey Wrench Gang?

Judging by the brief outline of the plot, this sounds alarmingly similar to Edward Abbey's novel "The Monkey Wrench Gang" (which might also be adapted for the screen in the near future). Is this an alternative adaptation or something?

I wondered the exact same thing. It would be no surprise if she chose to film the novel. Meek's Cutoff put Abbey's "Desert Solitaire" in mind for me.

I wonder who will play Hayduke then :) I haven't watched that movie, but I'm a big fan of "Desert Solitaire" so maybe I should give it a chance.

I just saw this! Oh no!

Well, that's not surprising. They did sound VERY similar in terms of the basic plot outline.

I had assumed that the main influence for this particular film was the ELF plot to destroy the Nimbus Dam in Sacramento:

Perhaps Edward Abbey's estate should sue reality itself as well for copyright infringement, heh.

Good! I have no problem with movies borrowing ideas from other movies or elsewhere, but in this case it seems very blatant and he deserves to be sued (and lose). That article is well over 1.5 years old though, so it sounds like they either settled or nothing ever came of it. The Monkey Wrench Gang has been in development for years, I'd hate to see this all jeopardize its ability to ever be made.
