This may be a common observation, but i tried searching/Googling and didnt see this brought. The Coen Brothers are known for refering Kubrick. Here, its super clear. When Llewyn is traveling to Chicago they make a rest stop at a diner, and the decor is red chairs against a white background. This is from the space station in 2001.
