The Mr Kennedy Outer Space Song

I couldn't stop laughing when I heard that song, especially when Adam Driver kept saying, "outer....space!" It kind of reminded me of some of the songs from the movie A Mighty Wind, another movie about folk music.

Agreed. That was some great acting, playing, and editing. Great scene.

Do I have to give it to you?

reply

It seemed to be derived (ripped off) from the Larry Verne song, "Please Mr. Custer."

reply

I find it more derivative of "Please Mr. Kennedy" by the Goldcoast Singers.

With a little of Bill Dana's "reluctant astronaut" routine -- a comedy act that was popular at the time.

OUTER! SPACE!

reply

Well, you know, FOLK music. That's the kind of thing that happens in FOLK music.

reply

It was hilarious! I'd love to see the outtakes.

Song about OUTER...SPACE with two actors who will soon be in Star Wars!!

reply

i was thinking the inclusion of the song was a foreshadowing of the pop-folk sound.

Yet another Please, Mr Kennedy song:

Probably my favorite part of the movie! I couldn't stop grinning from ear-to-ear during that scene! Totally unexpected given the sloppy setup it had, and suddenly... a magical moment of rockin' comedy! Outstanding moment!!!

reply

Uh ohh.
Why was the song recorded live, not separately...the vocals and the instruments? Is that how they used to record or was it just cause it was cheap, quick session by unknown musicians?

If you love Jesus Lizard and are 100% proud of it, copy this and make it your signature!
