Comic relief? The subway ride in the beginning was hilarious and so was the 2nd cat's head movements matching Llewyn's in the car.
shareWell yes, particularly when Lillian is holding up the female cat:
“Where's its scrotum, Llewyn? WHERE’S ITS SCROTUM??!!”
The look on the cat’s face is absolute gold. Hilarious scene.
But then there’s the scene where Llewyn bails on the cat and leaves it in the car with an overdosed John Goodman which is quite heartbreaking. The way it looks at him with those huge pleading eyes and reaches out a paw to him. Man, that killed me.
Then later in the film to add injury to insult he runs over the poor bugger and leaves it to limp off into the snow! Asshole! I cared less about what happened to Llewyn after that.
