Sequel, not a remake, according to Kiefer Sutherland

'I play a professor at the medical university. It is never stated but it will probably be very clearly understood that I'm the same character I was in the original Flatliners but that I have changed my name and I've done some things to move on from the experiments that we were doing in the original film.'

Interesting.

I was really annoyed it was another bloody remake-Glad it is a sequel instead

Normally if a professor at a medical college caught his students doing this extremely dangerous and illegal activity he would have them expelled and maybe arrested.

But talk about hypocrisy he would have no moral ground to stand on after what he and his cohorts did 27 years earlier.

I would love for him to catch them in the act and they think they are screwed but he just gives them a cryptic warning and tells them he will not interfere but warns them that it can bring back the worst sins from their past.

I'm sure we will just have to wait and see on that front, I'm so glad it is not another remake of a classic though

reply

Actually, he'd have every moral ground to stand on, because of he and the others did all those years ago. He knows, from experience, what can and will happen, and can warn the kids far better than anyone else could.

reply

That is really good news. I saw Flatliners for the first time, just last year and I loved it!!!! For this to not be just another remake is awesome.

reply

Wait, why would he change his name? The experiment wasn't public knowledge, was it? What would he be hiding from?

reply

Himself?

reply

If this is a sequel, why does it have the same name as the original? Where's the "part 2" or subtitle?

reply

well, i don't think it needs a subtitle, since "(2017)" would be hint enough. just look at "the final destination (2009)", which is one of the sequels to "final destination (2000).

nevertheless, with the name change of the character, i highly doubt that it is really a sequel.

I enjoyed the original and if it indeed is a sequel I may go see this in theaters....

If its a reboot I'll pass.

reply

A bunch of TV actors in a sequel 27 years after the original. Yeah, this movie has all the ingredients to be a modern day classic for sure. 

If it isn't a remake then it sure is odd that the title is the same...

Anyway, Kiefer Sutherland in in so I'm in :)

That's a stretch. There have been remakes and imitations of the them along the way. It sounds like Sutherland is trying to resurrect a dead cow that has been beaten several times since.

This will probably draw an audience of people who weren't alive for the first one, so it's "new." In the next "sequel," Sutherland will actually be reanimated from death.
