Actually no. If it were called The Last Exorcism II you would be right.

But this title indicates it's the 2nd part of The Last Exorcism. Not a 2nd The Last Exorcism. Geddit?

What about "The Neverending Story"? It ended.

What about Haunting in Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia?

No it isn't.

Part II could be assumed to be akin to a second chapter in a book, and not a full sequel title, kind of like Star Wars sequels used the episode descriptor.

I agree. It should have been called The Last Exorcism: Laster Than The Last One.

I think the last exorcism in the first movie meant that it was the last one performed by the guy doing the documentary. Following the character sort of forced them to re-use the title, since the character's name would not be memorable enough for people to figure out that it was a sequel. Ironically, there was another "last exorcism" in this one as the team of exorcists in the house were killed when they turned out to be too weak to cast out the demon and it took full control and killed them.
