Didn't answer any of the questions from the first movie.

I remember being creeped out by the ending of the first movie in theaters, all the while people were pissing and moaning about what it all meant. But it stuck with me, and I consider it one of the best found footage movies out there. When this sequel was announced, I was excited because I thought at long last we'd understand what the heck was happening in those last five minutes. What the cult ritual was about, what the significance of Nell's demon baby being tossed in the fire meant, what each character's role and true intentions were (especially Caleb). But this movie abandoned the original movie entirely, aside from the flashbacks (which incidentally were the scariest part of this movie). What a horrible sequel without any payoff at all. Basically the same thing happens -- Abalam has sex with her and ends up taking over her body. So what was the point of the ritual in the first movie? Ugh, just thinking about the logic (or lack thereof) pisses me off. I should have taken it as a sign that none of the original production was on board for this sequel. Maybe the only interesting part of this movie was the ending (driving while watching the world burn), but I honestly don't want to see a Part III.

It's an interesting read. I didn't realize the original title was "Cotton," but yes, it was clear to me that the story was always about him and the last exorcism of the title was the one he was about to perform. It still doesn't clear up the last few minutes of that movie, though. I understand that he gets his faith back in the end, but by that point the story has involved most of the characters and it would have been nice to get some closure. Anyway, I'm not bitter; in a way, that ending was better than any explanation they could have provided.

Just wondering, have you seen the sequel yet? Crap, isn't it?
