How big is Ellie Kemper's role?
i'm a big fan of Ellie's and i was just wondering. i'd like to see it already and Ellie Kemper is just the icing on the cake. Thanks :)
shareIt's a decent supporting role. She plays Keira's high school friend who offers a 'grown up' contrast to Keira's 'stuck in adolescence' phase. She basically plays her 'bridesmaid' character, except this time she's the bride (without being the focus. But she's good; the character is kind of a harpy but she still manages to be likable.
shareI didn't find her character likable, actually. You can tell she wants what's best for Megan (Knightley's character), she just comes off as shrewish and judgmental about it!

Yeah, that's true; that's how the character's written. But given that, I thought she came across as likable as was possible for her, which was needed otherwise she would have been too cartoon-y a villain. I think Kempler just has an innate likability that she can't help exude even when playing a shrew.
which, now that I think about it, sheds both some light and confusion on the whole Megan wanting to dump all her old friends conclusion. Her 'old crew' had to be believable enough as friends yet distasteful enough that she'd want to let go of them. A tough balance, and with that in mind I think Kempler did a good job (although that might be a script weakness)
