shareIt was bc she was interacting with 'chattel' something that was considered sub-human in that era. Not even a question of barren. The slaves are not even 'help' with rights. They are in a very real sense pieces of property which just happen to eat....etc.
shareIt varied greatly to what status the slaves had depending on the era, country, slave owner and the abilities of the slave itself. Altrough the north american slavery was indeed one of the worst variations of it.
